Description
By analyzing images and audio/video recordings (dialogues, interviews and presentations) of daily life, we will discuss lexical, grammatical, stylistic aspects including register. Specifically, students will work on commenting on images, expressing preferences, likes & dislikes, and speculating on present & past.
Students will also be introduced to making mini-presentations and debating in order to practice the following techniques: talking about past, present & future, suggesting, (dis)agreeing, asking for opinions, expressing & justifying opinions and adding emphasis.
The images and video/audio recordings explored in class, which will vary by theme, will present a typical situation using standard, everyday formal and informal language, and pay attention to socio-cultural aspects of the English language.
Aims
- To develop student’s speaking and listening skills at the Advanced C1 level.
- To improve student’s abilities to speak in and understand formal and informal English by focusing on general and specific comprehension and the production of lexical and grammatical constructions.
Assessment
Student participation in class will be continuously assessed throughout the year.
